10/06/2025 on St Sunday & Fairfield

Another one of the many Summits never visited by me was St Sunday Crag we went up Raise Beck and ascended from Grisedale tarn then proceeded to Fairfield .
I operated on 2m and 70cm from both summits using the Anytone 779 after ascertaining there was nothing exploiting the apparent Achilles heel in the filters on the otherwise good little radio . I now do this every time by test calling repeaters to see if I get a response . If not and the FT 65 does , it goes back in the bag . The antenna was the usual cobbled together coax flowerpot 1/2 wave dual band one.
All calls appreciated on both bands , and the weather was ideal for walking and the radio .

Hi Richard
i’m impressed with the photo’s taken with Annis’s phone my canon would have exposed for the light area’s and the rest would be very dark, but the contrast is spot on for both light and dark
I also like the pretty red cable better than ordinary black. It was good to make the contact,
Fairfield is not one i can always get from home the half wave plus 25 watts made all the difference

I use a programme to process photos which is good at extracting detail Reg,
I think it’s called photomatix , its an old one that was free at the time windows 7 was the latest thing .

Thanks for the report. I did radio support for the Tour de Furness and it poured with rain at one point. My Anytone didn’t survive this, even though it is meant to be waterproof.

I wonder sometimes Mark, with waterproof gear that has to be functional such as equipment , clothing etc , the quality is measured by how long it keeps the rain out ? I’ve bought some things , especially boots and clothing which have sooner or later let the water in when things get really bad . The exception being wellies , they never leak but not very practical in most situations away from fishing !

Update - from having a completely white screen when turning it on, it has come back to life unbelievably! Seems to be working fine again, but I won’t risk it in the rain in future.

Great . That’s a spare radio you didn’t expect to have !
It was a nice day for Blencathra Mark. I trust it was a good walk today ?
I was on Harter Fell last Thursday and it was warm enough but blowing a hurricane on the summit .
