The Kirkstone pass car park has been free for a good number of years but now you have to pay
Not sure if it is because of the new pub or the National Trust see it as another cash cow ?, a lot of the once free car parks are have gone thank to internet enabled machines
Apparently, NT doesn’t own the car park. The landowner also owns the Inn and says he doesn’t see why it should be free-of-charge when most CP’s aren’t, nor why camper-vans etc should park there (often overnight) and contribute nothing. He says the income from parking will help subsidise the brewery using the Inn and holiday-lets at the Inn.
Like other CPs in the LD I don’t begrudge paying a few quid whilst I go hillwalking/ SOTAing.
Apparently the council used to lease it off the Kirkstone Inn but that lease has now expired. There was considerable backlash about the accommodation part of the inn being turned into a stag and hen do airbnb when the interior renovation was revealed. I don’t have an opinion on that, and whilst a free car park is nice someone has to pay for the upkeep regardless and hopefully it will not receive a bit of tlc.
