Black Combe 14/03/2026

Having seen the Saturday weather was to be the one nice day among all the bad ones , decided to do this fell just because we like it , really. I also saw Tony M9OUD was out doing 4m and 70cm bands as well as 2m . I usually do 2m first and wait until the calls stop , then do 70cm as it’s the same antenna and radio , 4m involves swapping antennas and radios , often if I get any contacts on 4m at all they have usually followed me from the other bands any way knowing I’m going to be there .

I got the summit contact with Tony on 2m and 70cm but I hadn’t expected being on 2m and 70cm so long and he had to press on to Stony Cove so we missed out on 4m I had 39 contacts , nine of which were on 70cm and four , on 4m also including a few S2S .

The ascent was in bright sunshine noting the Spring lambs in the field, and the sight and sound of yellowhammers getting ready for nesting no doubt . The summit was in cloud when we arrived there with a mist coming in off the sea , but conditions cleared later .
