Chasing from Silloth

I’d planned to have a couple of days on the hills for the LD weekend. Most likely take a comfortable set-up and squat on a submit each day. Did not come to pass, so I did my best in whilst in Silloth for the Solway Coast Cycling Festival. Both boys were racing grass track.

If you don’t know much about grass track racing, it’s as the name suggest, racing bikes on a grass track. The bikes are fixed wheel with no brakes and can be rather exciting, or terrifying, depending on your point of view. Once we arrived in Silloth, I set up the station for the day, and in between duties and cheering, did my best to chase as many activators as possible.

I deployed my FTM-7250D, roach pole and flowerpot antenna attached to the side of the gazebo. It worked well and one 4Ah Drill Battery did the business. Summary of contacts today.

Steve - good result for you anyway: two birds (bike duties and radio), one stone. Your log is similar to mine for the day (but you have more contacts). Silloth is easily as good as Brigham for contacting WOTA tops. Although it’s further away, it’s probably less obstructed by nearby terrain. And that decent antenna setup of yours will have helped. Let’s see what 12 September brings… 73, Phil

Thanks Phil,

Did not do nearly as well today, but did get a rare HF contact with @M0NOM on 80m. It’s not often I plug the antenna in. To be fair, I’ve not plugged any antennas in at home for a few weeks - my confusion ended when I noticed - just thought I was being ignored! lol

Congrats of the 214 - I expect I may well take even longer to get them all ticked off.

I did not do nearly as well to day for chasing.

Cheers

Steve
