Fairfield & Seat Sandal 6/08/2024

First time up Fairfield for me , I had done Seat Sandal last year , the weather was good for walking , Sunny and quite windy which helped to stop overheating on the climb up from Dunmail Raise. Used the 5W Yaesu 65 for 2m this time and took a small 12V battery to power the 4m Motorola’s 25W which I used on ,had half a dozen contacts on 4m . Roll up flowerpot antennas for both bands . Plenty in the log, including SOTA summit to summits with a Swiss couple EI/HB9HXJ/P & EI/HB9EVF/P who were doing two activations Great and Little Sugar Loaf Mountains In Ireland and we managed contacts from both our summits. Also got Simon G4JXP/P who was on Illgill Head.

I’ve activated the two summits together three times in the past five years starting at Dunmail Raise (on the A591). As I recall the final ascent of Fairfield coming from Seat Sandal is a bit of a rocky moonscape.

Yes it is rather rocky Andy, first time I’ve been up . Similar Lunar appearance on Great Borne which I climbed for the first time today , despite it being one of the nearer ones to me .
