May Bank Holiday on Blencathra

Icy cool breeze on the ascent but not too bad at the summit as it brightened up , there were loads of people about as expected . Operated on 2 & 4m
Here’s a few photos .

Purely for amusement (as I’m very not competitive) I’ve been keeping an eye on the leader board this year and it looks like you’re going to give us all a run for our money Richard - which is actually great and I’m really grateful that you are both keeping the numbers up and also posting about your adventures on discourse.

Keep up the great work!

Just noticed you mentioned 4m in your report - I was testing out a new mobile antenna on the motorbike the other day, a Watson W-7900 - a beast of a mobile antenna with good gain and not too high on the motoribke - and was talking to David @G6LKB who mentioned he now had a dedicated 4m antenna.

What setup are you using portable @2E0XGO for 4m Richard? I’ve never owned a rig capable of 4m!

Mark .
It’s just an Motorola 350 (I think) radio that’s been repurposed it has four channels on 4m . It has no screens or meters so if I can hear you you’re 5/9 . 25W power . I spoke to Dave on 4m on a couple of the summits the other day . I just use a home made coax flowerpot antenna like the 2m one which can be rolled up and dangled from a pole .

I think the number of activations I’ve been doing recently is only a reflection of how much we have been enjoying any opportunity of getting back into the fell walking which we did occasionally in the past but drifted away from a few years ago . Spent most of the spare time fishing the lakes or on the sea over the years and was also into the motorcycling like you . After getting the radio licence in 2021 WOTA and SOTA got both me and my wife back onto the fells she had missed them more than I did I think , and it’s got our fitness up again . Can’t persuade her to go for the M7 though.
