As you’ll see from the photos two nice sunny days , starting with a quite leisurely walk with Reg 2E0LDF up to the trig point on Hooker Crag the WOTA summit where we made plenty of contacts on 2m and one on 4m with Derek 2E0MIX . G4VFL Andrew called in from home and said he was off up to Dent and was taking his 4m hand held as well .
We next negotiated our way through the bog to the less obvious looking SOTA summit which is probably ignored by most walkers? By this time Andrew was on Dent where we had a 4m contact which Andrew informed me was his first ever S2S on the band . we both worked Derek of course who seems in my limited experience to be the most reliable often only person at answering you on 4m !
There were s2s with Nick and Dave G3TQQ/P & G4OOE/P G/NP-015 on Great Knoutberry Hill
Tim on Skiddaw as well . it was good to get Andy on his WOTA, too.
Following day, the 28th, My Wife and I went for a walk over Blake Fell and Burnbank . There was a bloke with a camera set up on a tripod . it was about 0955 when I got set up and he’d been talking to my Wife no doubt asking what I was up to ? He told her he was waiting for the Red Arrows heading South from Lossiemouth due at 1000 . Just about time to get the phone camera ready and right on time they came over , and I did manage to get 9 red dots in the frame with the antenna . I thought I’d try another band no body uses, 70cms and managed a few contacts from those I’d worked on 2m on both summits .
We paddled through another bog to Burnbank Fell where Mark M0NOM and I managed a very welcolme WOTA s2s .
We headed down from Burnbank via a traverse path which leads to Sharp Knott where it meets the the forestry track . It wasn’t that easy to see from the gate but fairly well defined when found and by the look of it little used . It also avoided the bog on the upper route .
Great to hear everyone on both days and catch up with a couple of people I’d not heard from in a while too. I’m sure Reg will have some great pictures from the day out as well ?
Richard.
