QSO Mapping Tool

Mark, thanks for creating the QSO mapping tool and making it available to the rest of us.

I used it to enhance my recent 3-WOTAs activation report with Google Earth ‘contact maps’ for each of the three activations.

Old Man of Coniston, Brim Fell and Dow Crag

Old Man of Coniston (LDW-030), Brim Fell (LDW-037) and Dow Crag (LDW-047) I was warned that the end of the public road at Walna Scar had been made into Pay & Display parking since my last visit in 2019. And so it has: £4 up to 4 hours, £8 for longer. I had persuaded my wife to give me lots of coins assuming it would be a cash-only machine at this remote location. It turned out to be both card and cash but it wouldn’t take the coins anyway (probably full up). Moral of the story: always take both…

It’s straight-forward to use. For anyone thinking of having a go, here’s what I did:-

1. transfer paper log into a logging program (Fast Log Entry, in my case) and export an ADIF file. Some chaser locations are not specified and you might have to include the chaser’s maidenhead locator in your original log file.
2. Import the ADIF file to the mapping tool. You probably need to specific your lat,long coordinates in the tool’s main menu.
3. Download the KML file generated and open it with Google Earth to see the paths between you and your contacts.
4. I used Window 10’s Snip & Sketch utility to create a JPEG file of the mapping, then import the JPEG into my activation report.
